As part of the UNICEF-funded project to improve access to water, sanitation, and cholera prevention for Gezira IDPs in Shendi and Al-Matama, Nabta teams assessed and rehabilitated sanitation facilities in five locations: Ibrahim Kamel Boarding School, Shendi Secondary School for Boys, Development Centers A and B, and Hosh Bannaga Hospital. The work included addressing emergency situations such as overflowing septic tanks and blocked latrines. The team cleaned and pumped 111 latrines at the aforementioned locations, although these tasks were not within the initial project scope. The lack of water pumps was identified as an additional challenge, necessitating the recommendation for their installation. These works directly benefited 3,576 individuals across all locations.
